Street Fighter II Turbo: Hyper Fighting · SNES · 1993 · Cheat Code
Effect: Allows both players to choose the same character in versus mode, which was disabled by default.
Street Fighter II's SNES ports mirrored the arcade cabinet's restriction that prevented same-character matches. Capcom hid a configuration code behind the Capcom boot logo — Down, R, Up, L, Y, B, confirmed by the screen flashing blue — that unlocked options the normal front end omitted, including mirror matches (and adjustable game speed in Turbo). The code was widely circulated in Nintendo Power and gaming magazines, and mirror matches became a popular way for players to settle skill disputes by removing character advantage as a variable. Later Street Fighter releases made same-character selection a standard menu option.
