Deep Dive
Galaxy Force II is a classic 1980s rail shooter game developed by Sega for Arcade.
Developer Story
Galaxy Force II was designed by Yu Suzuki at Sega in 1988. The third-person rail shooter used Sega's most advanced scaling hardware to render a vast three-dimensional tunnel at high speed. The motion-simulator cabinet version rotated 360 degrees. It was one of the most technically impressive arcade games of 1988, though its difficulty and the cabinet's mechanical complexity limited its commercial reach.
Did You Know?
The Galaxy Force II cabinet could rotate completely — full 360-degree motion in sync with the on-screen action.
Yu Suzuki designed Galaxy Force II, Space Harrier, After Burner, and OutRun across just four years — one of the most productive creative runs in arcade history.
The scaling hardware processed more sprites per frame than almost any other 1988 arcade game.
The game's cost and mechanical complexity made it rare in arcades — a paradox where the most impressive games were seen by the fewest players.
